Oriental Inspiration: Sophisticated Bô Zen Bar in Braga, Portugal

Central Arquitectos completed the design for a 465 square meter social venue located in Braga, Portugal. The challenge proposed was to design a Bar located in a preexisting building, a space with the characteristics of a private living room. The project explores the creation of a noble and refined place with a strong oriental inspiration. A mixture of noble materials such as marble, wood and gilt metal combined with a palette of warm colors and textured fabrics offers a cozy and comfortable ambient. A monumental hall marks the entrance with a contemporary style and leads to the living room of the bar.

The use of mirrors reflects the ceiling´s delicate decorative and other architectural details of the interior environment. The design of the ceiling comes from a reinterpretation of an oriental motif, standardized by a module that materializes a delicate mesh strongly emphasized by indirect lighting application. The lighting has been designed to reflect and accentuate the elegance of the space. The bar space transports you to a warm environment where a fascinating blend of traditional and contemporary evocative elements lead the client to a private living room. Sophisticated Triplex in Saint Petersburg With Panoramic City Views

We got used to positive reactions when it comes to Russian penthouse designs and are very curious to see how you will respond to this particular project. Berlin-based architectural studio nps tchoban voss in collaboration with ST Design completed their work on a luxury triplex in the center if Saint Petersburg. Two terraces located on the upper two levels allow the inhabitants to enjoy panoramic views of the city center and large windows flood the rooms in natural light.

A meandering stairway connects the three levels of the penthouse. The bottom floor accommodates both living and private spaces, creating a loft-like experience. Next up, there are the entertaining and business space facilities, while on the third level you will find an impressive space delimited by glass, with “omniscient” city views and modern lounge furniture. I wonder if you can spot any of the Hermitage art collections from up there.

WSJ: Eric Schmidt calls China ‘the most sophisticated and prolific’ hacker of foreign firms
The Wall Street Journal snagged a preview of an upcoming book co-authored by Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt and the company’s Jared Cohen, and it doesn’t seem to paint the rosiest picture of China. Dubbed The New Digital Age, the tome reportedly claims China is “the world’s most active and enthusiastic filterer of information” in addition to “the most sophisticated and prolific” hacker of foreign firms. Recent stats and events don’t exactly help the nation’s image.
In addition to the threat of hacking attempts originating from China, the work also touches upon the Chinese government’s alleged involvement with network infrastructure providers such as Huawei. According to the book, such cooperation puts the US at an economic and political disadvantage since “the United States will not take the same path of digital corporate espionage, as its laws are much stricter (and better enforced) and because illicit competition violates the American sense of fair play.” However, Schmidt and Cohen posit that even western firms “will coordinate their efforts with their governments on both diplomatic and technical levels” as the future unfolds.
In terms of what’s to come, the work also considers that the country’s “mix of active citizens armed with technological devices and tight government control is exceptionally volatile,” and that it could cause “widespread instability,” and even “some kind of revolution in the coming decades.” If you’re interested in more prognostication from Google’s head honcho, the book is slated to hit shelves this April. For now, you can hit the neighboring source link for additional morsels.

Pocket Chair Looking a Little Bit Eccentric, Yet Sophisticated

An awesome design and all the comfort in the world: this is what the Pocket Chair promises to those who are willing to experience it. The studio responsible with the design is simply called DING3000, a fun and nonconformist name, indeed! The body is made of wood and leather, it washes easily and it literally slips its wooden legs into…pockets. Each leg with its private pocket. The material, cuoietto leather is quite special because of its adaptability. “The cozy shape gives it a familiar, yet sophisticated look. Washable and resistant, it can be used in different contexts, from home to office but also in lounge bars, wine shops and restaurants”.

The design is unique and eccentric. This makes you part of a story that understands the values of innovation. Now, how about testing it?! Imagine yourself sitting back and relaxing, reading a good book and enjoying a wonderful cup of tea. The Pocket Chair not only looks good, but it also feels good. The best thing about it is that it actually fits everywhere. In case you are looking to buy the Pocket Chair, you can find it here.

Former Farmhouse Converted into Sophisticated, Yet Bohemian Chalet in the Alps

Belgian decorator Lionel Jadot was commissioned to transform a former farmhouse into a spectacular chalet. Located near Megève, a major tourist resort in the French Alps, the project features two levels, the first of which accommodates the bedrooms. Above, there is an impressive open-plan living area, with a ceiling height of 12 meters. This particular interior is the focal point of the entire cabin. The abundance of wood and the colorful decorations give away a feeling of coziness, while the generously-sized windows flood the room in natural light.

The perfect image of a room surrounded by extensive mountain views is completed in this case by a traditional fireplace, located right in the middle. A lovely mix of vintage and traditional defines the interiors of the chalet; the designer chose to add personality to his project, by embedding various furniture and pieces belonging to different cultures from Africa, Asia and Europe.

Sophisticated Whistler Residence Inspired By Typical Local Chalets

Part of an exclusive mountain neighborhood in Whistler, Canada, the residence belonging to a London-based client was inspired by its surroundings and received a simple name hinting to its location – Whistler Residence. Battersby Howat Architects completed this residential project taking into account the client’s affinity for typical Whistler chalets, but upgrading the architecture to a modern standard. As the architects describe it, the house is slightly deceptive: “located on a smallish, yet prominent site, the visual mass of this large structure was diminished through making a substantial portion of the house appear to be below grade. Thoughtful removal of bedrock and the careful allocation of program to allow for both adult and children’s retreat zones resulted in a structure that is extremely private and looks deceptively modest in relation to its neighbors.” A collection of carefully placed windows help capture views of the distant mountain peaks and rocky/green terrain in the immediate vicinity. Cladded in black stained shingles and topped off with standing seam metal roofing, the Whistler Residence stands out without overwhelming the panorama.
