Need your room layout on paper as soon as possible? Check out the MagicPlan application, a small program which can generate the plan of a room in seconds. Simply innitiate the app from your iPhone or iPad, turn around in a circle, mark the corners and take pictures with the device’s camera. The result? A professional sketch with an accuracy of about 6 inches, which can further be exported in multiple formats. Here is more from the developers: “Solutions are available on the market to measure a house, draw floor plans and program on the web. However, the current solutions are not integrated and are complex to implement. Creating a floor plan takes time, necessitates expertise, and is often expensive. Thus, creating the floor plan of a house is still very much in the hands of professionals. MagicPlan revolutionizes the real estate market: no need for expertise, time or money. With MagicPlan, everyone can create a floor plan“. Have a look at the video below to better understand how it works and tell us if you find this application useful!

US Navy Fire Scouts will automatically spot pirates, give 30 seconds to comply
War. What is it good for? Well, if new use of technology by the US Navy has anything to do with it, finding Pirates for a start. By upgrading its existing Fire Scouts with new 3D laser imaging tech, it’s hoped that the drones will be able to recognize the small ships used by these unscrupulous seafarers. The system, known as LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging, also known as LADAR) uses millions of laser pulses reflected off an object to create the three-dimensional image, which could then referenced against known pirate ships from a database. Ultimately, human operators will make the final call, to avoid any ED-209 style mis-understandings. That said, if you’re taking the dingy out past the Californian breakwaters this summer, you might want to keep the stars and stripes in clear view, as that’s where the Navy will be running its initial trials.

Digitalize Your Ingenious Ideas in Seconds: Inkling Pen [Video]
![wacom_inkling wacom inkling Digitalize Your Ingenious Ideas in Seconds: Inkling Pen [Video]](http://cdn.freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/wacom_inkling.jpg)
The Inkling Digital Pen was created by Wacom and can turn your “pen on paper” sketches into electronic, vector graphics. What we find truly amazing is that the design allows its users to sketch on any piece of paper! A small receiver attached to the sketch memorizes the data written by the digital pen, which can further be transfered into any computer. According to the producers, “in addition to capturing your sketch, stroke by stroke, Inkling allows you to create layers in digital files while you sketch on paper. Digital files are transferred to your computer using the Inkling Sketch Manager software, and later, exported to applications such as Adobe® Photoshop® and Illustrator®. Files can also be opened with the included Inkling Sketch Manager software to edit, delete, add layers or change file formats.” Seen on DVice, the innovative Inkling pen is perfect for registering rough concepts and sudden ideas, for both designers and architects.

Visualized: 3D3 Solutions scans our face in two seconds flat
See that bloke? That’s Darren Murph. Well, a digital representation of the human version, anyway. That image was captured in two painless seconds at the hands of 3D3 Solutions, which was on-hand here at SIGGRAPH to demonstrate its newest FlexScan setups. The rig that snapped our face rings up at around $10,000, and relies on a Canon DSLR (strictly for capturing textures), a projector and a secondary camera. As you’ve likely picked up on, this is hardly designed for average DIYers, but these solutions are also far more detailed and flexible than using Microsoft’s Kinect. We’re told that the company recently started to support Nikon cameras as well, and for those who’d prefer to use their existing cameras / PJs, a hobbyist-centric software package will allow you to do just that. The only problem? Figuring out where the $2,700 (for software) is going to come from. Head on past the break for a demonstration vid, or peruse the gallery below if you’re feeling extra creepy.

Imperia plug-in hybrid does 0 – 60 in four seconds, looks classy while doing it
If you’re tired of hybrids like the Prius or Volt, cars that could easily get lost in a Hertz parking lot, check out the GP. It’s the first and only product from resurrected Belgian auto maker Imperia, which previously operated in the early 20th century, but other than the pronounced front grille offers little resemblance to its forbears either above or below that pronounced bonnet. It has an inline four cylinder turbo engine offering 212hp that’s paired with a 134hp electric engine, itself backed by a Li-polymer battery pack. It’ll do about 45 miles on batteries alone but, more importantly, will roll the 0 – 60mph sprint in under four seconds. Or, at least, it will if it ever hits production. A concept of the car was unveiled at the Brussels Auto Show, but it’s anyone’s guess when it might actually hit the road for reals.

The metamorphosis couldn’t be more interesting to observe. It looks like a fast and captivating magic trick. This uncommon chair is perfect for taking along when traveling- just imagine bringing more of these tiny suitcases and setting up a picnic table- or for the outdoor spaces located near the house.
