32GB Nexus 7 tablets appear at retail with $249 price tag, October 29th street date
Ahead of Google’s Android event on the 29th there’s additional confirmation of a storage upgrade for the Nexus 7, as 32GB units have now been spotted on shelves at US retailers. Seemingly dead-set on matching the LG E960 “Mako” Nexus G for the title of worst-kept secret, we’ve received this photo of a tag for the new unit at a Sam’s Club (with a placeholder price), while reports on Android Central and The Verge mention hardware spotted at Staples locations with one person actually succeeding in buying one. All of that follows a listing on the Staples website and one Japanese buyer apparently receiving one early by accident. According to the tags and receipts the new units are scheduled to go on sale the same day as the Android event, and at the same $249 price of the current 16GB model. Now that alleged Sony Nexus phone has been exposed as a fake we don’t know if there will be any surprises left to reveal 10 days from now, but if you want to buy anything from the brand patience (or at least shopping around) is probably your best strategy.
[Thanks, Adam]

Must See HDTV (October 1st – 7th)
We’re still trying to clear our DVRs from last week’s flood of fall premieres, but luckily there’s only a few brand new shows arriving this week. On the other hand, there are a slew of Blu-ray releases and videogames debuting, so plan your time carefully. Find any new favorites among the shows making their debut last week? Let us know in the comments below and check out the highlights this week, followed after the break by our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and videogames.
NBA 2K13
With competitor NBA Live shelved (again) there’s only one option for hoops on your console this year, luckily it’s a pretty good one. NBA 2K13 has reworked its control scheme (again) and listed Jay-Z as its executive producer to promise some extra flair and a booming soundtrack. We can’t wait for the annual rite of popping the game in, taking on our friends online and quickly getting disconnected as the servers get overloaded (again.)
($58.99 on Amazon for PS3 and Xbox 360)
30 Rock
One of NBC’s best comedies finally returns this week with Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, Tracy Jordan and all the rest trying to put together their sketch comedy series each week. We have no idea what this season has in store but Tina Fey and the rest of the writers rarely disappoint. Now, just bring back Community and we’ll be happy NBC.

Toys R Us 7-inch Tabeo kids tablet coming in October for $150
Toys R Us has posted a listing for a new 7-inch child’s Android slate priced at $150 called the Tabeo, saying it will go on sale October 1st in stores only. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company will announce more details later today, but pictures on the site indicate it will be more conventional in design style and not as “kiddified” as the toy store’s last model, the Nabi. That might mean it’s aimed at older kids than the previous tab’s six-year old and up target, but it better have some killer features for the younger set — it’s up against a spate of similar products that have already hit shelves.

RIM’s first BlackBerry 10 device may come as early as October
It’s no secret that there’s currently a sense of urgency in Waterloo, but if a recent report from N4BB is accurate, it seems that both consumers and enterprise are bound to benefit. According to the site’s confidential source, Research in Motion is preparing to reveal its first BlackBerry 10 device in mid-August and will have the product in the hands of consumers by October. We’d previously known that RIM intends to have these units in the hands of developers next month, which gives a bit of credence to this most recent revelation. As for what consumers may expect, the first device is said to offer just a touchscreen, whereas we’ll need to wait until Q1 of next year to see a handset with a physical QWERTY keyboard. As you’ll recall, the company’s previous leader, Mike Lazaridis, previously stated that consumers wouldn’t see a BlackBerry 10 device until the end of the year, but this was due entirely to a shortage of the chipset that RIM deemed crucial to its manufacture. Perhaps Mr. Heins was able to light a bit of a fire under the company’s partners, no?

10 Most Popular Projects Presented in October 2011
October was a full month for Freshome. We had some unbelievable projects presented, some of which got plenty of votes. Your opinions are welcomed and at the end of each month, the “10 Most Popular Projects…” post highlights this idea. Without any further ado, here are the articles that scored the highest on your list, according to their Facebook shares. Remember that by clicking on the pictures, you can see more photos and details about each project.
#1. The most popular Freshome post in October 2011 pays tribute to these impressive abandoned Victorian homes built with the help of LEGO bricks. The original idea belongs to Mike Doyle, who not to long ago finished his third collapsing home in this amazing series. According to Laughing Squid, the projects made so far are called Victorian on Mud Heap, achieved with the help of about 110k-130k pieces.
#2. In at number two is a fascinating place of retreat called Ayada Maldives and located on the island of Maguhdhuvaa, in the lovely Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll district. The resort consists of 112 luxurious villas and opened on October 30, 2011. Impeccable blue waters, powder white sands and lush vegetation- they all seem to be a given in this miniature paradise.

#3. The River Side House is an impressive project designed by Mizuishi Architect Atelier and located in Tokyo, Japan. The small home was constructed on a triangle site and occupies a building area of 29.07 square meters. Impressive!
#4. Blue Jay Way Residence comes from McClean Design and is located in Los Angeles, California, USA. The project occupies an area of 6800 square feet and has panoramic views of LA, Santa Monica, the Pacific, and Catalina Island. Just click the photo below for more information.
#5. And another residence that caught your attention at number 5. Static House was designed by Jakarta-based studio TWS & Partners and is a diverse 7,530 square foot contemporary home in Jakarta, Indonesia. The client’s brief in this case implied the construction of an opulent “garden house”, a crib that would communicate well with the exterior.
#6. Wood cladded homes are very popular these days. This is the case with this next house in Almunecar named Pure White – a fascinating residence designed by Susanna Cots. Interior spaces can be described as ordered, comfortable and luxurious. Flooded with light, the house above the sea gathers panoramic views from several vantage points, at the same time protecting the inhabitants’ privacy by displaying a modern and robust front facade, partially cladded in wood.
#7. You just gotta love a design idea so simple and fresh! This aquarium is the creation of Psalt Design, a collaborative studio composed of three English friends who graduated together at Sheffield Hallam University: Richard Bell, Thomas McKeown and David Powell. The piece is self-explanatory: simple, beautiful and stylish.
#8. Shakhti 360 Leti is a remote hotel in the Himalayas designed by Jamshyd Sethna, a travel professional from Bombay, India. The project was developed as a result of Jamshyd’s love for the mountains. The luxurious hotel is sited on a stone base and features floor to ceiling glass windows, allowing panoramic views of the Himalayas.
#9. In at number nine- a mind-blowing conversion of a barn in Surrey, England, into a beautiful contemporary living space. The project belongs to Stedman Blower Architects and was featured on the famous TV show “Grand Designs”. The new residence displays a highly modern appearance and an original layout.

#10. This impressive contemporary apartment was submitted via e-mail by Juraj Karlík, of Neopolis Studio. The project belongs to designer Vierka and we were happy to see that it is located in a city that we did not yet cover on Freshome: Bratislava, Slovakia.

Must See HDTV (October 24th – 30th)
This week baseball’s World Series continues, after splitting the first four games evenly it all comes down to a best of three between the Rangers and Cardinals. Of course, that’s not all coming to our TVs this week, as several new series premiere, along with some Halloween-themed programming. The biggest surprise however is the 90s-throwback feel of this week’s roundup, find out why in the highlights below, followed after the break by our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and videogames
Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy
When the first flick debuted in 1993, it brought Michael Crichton’s book to life with an unprecedented new level of special effects. Of course, that meant the Jurassic Park trilogy’s strength was never its story, which regressed further in subsequent films. Still, you can celebrate some of the best in ’90s cinema this week with the new triple pack that includes the movies and all new behind the scenes information. You can also get your dinosaur fix every week with Terra Nova, but we wouldn’t recommend it.
(October 26th, $48.99 on Amazon)
Beavis & Butt-head
Mike Judge’s animated duo make their return to the small screen after a 14 year layoff Thursday night, and for better or worse, it doesn’t appear that much has changed. Of course, the internet has opened up a whole new source of bad music videos for the pair to display and dissect, but since they’re on the internet, its much more likely that you’ve already seen them. We’d rather have Daria or Aeon Flux back instead, but we’ll check this out for nostalgia’s sake.
(October 27th, MTV, 10PM)
Grimm
The other new fairytale based TV show makes its debut on NBC this week, with a very Supernatural / Fringe type of take on the old stories. This time around the Grimm brothers are homicide detectives that chase down all those supposedly mythical creatures in the very real world of Portland, Oregon. We’ll see if it’s worth watching as it takes on Fringe in the same time slot Friday night — check after the break for a preview.
(October 28th, NBC, 9PM)

Samsung Stratosphere cleared for Verizon landing October 13th
It seems like only yesterday that we got the full specy treatment from Samsung’s QWERTYriffic Stratosphere — 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.3 and 5MP rear-facing camera included. There was an important bit of information missing from the proceedings, however — namely a release date. Droid Life has shed some light on that little mystery — according to the site, the LTE handset should start offering up its Gingerbread goodness on Verizon starting October 13th.
