Inspired by the polygonal shape of minerals found in nature, Spanish architect Ramon Esteve has designed the Faz daybed for VONDOM. The resulting outdoor furniture piece mixes an elegant design with a practical ability to protect its user from harmful sun rays. Moreover, the lounge chair is equipped with wheels, making it easy to move from one place to another and create a versatile relaxation platform for sunbathing. Just switch the daybed around in order to get an optimum amount of sunlight!

The project also makes use of a hydraulic system, allowing its users to open and close it when not in use. A light top translucent fabric acts as a large protective umbrella. By connecting smartphone and bluetooth technology to the built-in speakers, you can play your favorite music by the pool. For a general idea on how the daybed works, have a look at the video placed at the end of the post!

Elegant Handmade Chandeliers: The Constantin Lighting Collection

Feast your eyes on this impressive lighting collection displaying an immaculate design. The Constantin line was created by Andrea Claire Lighting and features three types of handmade products: chandeliers, floor lamps, and desk lamps. The shape that stands at the basis of this collection is highly original and achieved through a special method of “forming bamboo over metal frames and armatures finished in brushed brass, satin nickel, oil rubbed bronze, or chrome”. When lit, the effect is truly spectacular and the room within which the lighting design is placed receives a warm, delightful glow. When the light is shut, the wooden chandelier adds a great decorative touch. The Constantin line, recently displayed at ICFF new york 2011 is said to be green and customizable. We particularly like the idea of “handmade”, which is why we salute this project and looking forward to seeing it on the market. The metal support however doesn’t seem to “blend in”; what do you think?

RiK Stools and Lighting by Inon Rettig
Inon Rettig, a young designer from Israel, has created the Rik collection of stools and lamps that combine wood and plastic in such a way that one confines the other with in it.

.
Description from Inon Rettig:
I chose to design and produce a series of stools and light fixtures that combine wood and plastic in such a way that one “confines” the other with in it, giving it form and structure.
I worked with the well-known and old fashioned plastic industry technology known as vacuum forming (the processing of plastic bolts through heating and stretching on a tray using vacuum). This is a technology that began with a design orientation but quickly became reduced to a secondary element that is considered inferior within the industry.
As with every technology, vacuum forming has its unique advantages and disadvantages. One of the primary disadvantages of this technology is the creation of “bridges” or “webbing”: in places where the raw material does not reach the tray’ it sticks to itself to create sort of plastic walls alongside the tray.
The idea of this project is to take that same unintentional disadvantage and to turn it into an intentional advantage. Within these limitations, I created an aesthetic that uses the element of chance as a formal language and, moreover, structurally reinforces the object.

Roly-Poly Rocking Lamp, a Fun and Provoking Lighting Design
Roly-Poly comes from designer Jung Jae Yup and is one of the most playful lamp design we’ve seen. The project is also known as “Zen”, probably because it takes a strong meditative state for one not to be provoked into playing with this lamp. We really like this idea, even through for some people it may seem a little irritating, especially if the lamp is in motion and the light keeps fluctuating. However, when it reaches a state of balance, it emits the same type of light as any other common lighting emitting item. We found a funny review on the net that said this product is perfect for those interesting in boxing, even though it would take some pretty small fists to “manage” the tiny lamp. No matter what auxiliary use you may find for it, Roly Poly remains a cool and intriguing design, great for a room with a creative style.- via Yanko Design
