NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor details leaked: 4-plus-1 cores, 28nm, six times the power of Tegra 3

NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor details lead 4plus1 quadcore, 28nm, six times the power of Tegra 3

NVIDIA’s next superhero-themed mobile chipset has possibly made an early appearance in a leaked side in China, and it looks like it wants to go toe-to-toe with the latest processors from Samsung and Qualcomm. The Tegra 4 (codenamed Wayne) will apparently offer the same power-efficient 28nm process found on its Snapdragon rival and according to the slide from Chip Hell, there’s a dizzying 72-core graphics setup. That’s apparently 20 times the power found the Tegra 2 and six times that in the last-generation Tegra 3, which powered, among other devices, the Nexus 7. Those graphics cores will be able to power screens up to 2,560 x 1600, with 1080p output at 120Hz, while the leak also mentions 4K — if only in passing. We won’t see any increase in CPU cores this time, with the same 4-plus-1 setup , but we are likely seeing a move to ARM’s latest design, the Cortex-A15. It’ll also catch up with USB 3.0, being NVIDIA’s first mobile chip to do so, alongside dual-channel DDR3L memory. We’ve reached out to chipmaker and we’ll let you know when we hear more, but it’s highly likely we’ll be seeing this next-generation processor early next year — say, at a mobile trade show.

RIM’s BlackBerry Packager for Android emerges in leaked video

Well, what do we have here? RIM has just posted a video outlining its new BlackBerry Packager for Android, just a few hours ahead of today’s DevCon event. The tool, which received brief mention in RIM’s conference schedule, essentially allows Android developers to port their apps to the PlayBook platform by converting their APK files to BAR files. As explained in the clip, developers should first obtain their signature keys from BlackBerry’s Developer Zone before undertaking any porting or development. From there, they can check their existing app’s compatibility with the PlayBook. If everything checks out, all they’d have to do is simply click “repackage and submit,” and the system will automatically sign and package it away. We’re expecting to get more details on RIM’s new Packager in the very near future, but you can catch a sneak peak in the video, after the break.

[Thanks, Ferganer]

Playbook OS version 2.0 leaked: is RIM really sacking BES?

This one comes with a health warning: even if the leaked screenshot above is legit, it’s easy to over-interpret. Nevertheless, it purports to show the account setup page from Blackberry Tablet OS 2.0 and it distinctly lacks any option to sync with Blackberry Enterprise Server or Internet Service. Instead, you’re able to configure Exchange/Active Sync, IMAP, POP, CalDAV and CardDAV accounts, which suggests that RIM is switching to the same integrated email, contacts and calendar solutions as everyone else. Of course, it could be that the BES/BIS simply isn’t enabled on this particular device, or that it’ll be added in a later version of the OS. Then again, we can’t help but recall those Colt rumors which also hinted that RIM’s in-house service would be incompatible with QNX.

Another juicy tidbit: a second screen shot after the break reveals a green robot icon in the far left. So, even if it Android integration has been delayed, at least it hasn’t been forgotten.

Nokia Perks leaked, ready to take on Groupon (video)

Nokia Perks

If you’re looking to score deals and discounts online you’ve got plenty of choices — Groupon, LivingSocial, GiltCity, Google Offers — and yet, Nokia seems to think the world needs one more such service. The sleuths over at ZOMGitsCj spotted a video on Vimeo from the struggling handset maker (since removed) introducing Nokia Perks. The premise is pretty simple — pop over to perks.nokia.com (currently offline), browse for deals and coupons, and click save on any you care to cash in. The discounts you pick are automatically sent to your phone and, just like Groupon, all you need to do is show the barcode to the register jockey. As a nice added touch, Perks also pops up directions to the store in the mapping app. For those who prefer motion visuals, a vid’s hosted up after the break.

[Thanks, Oliver]

Leaked docs suggest Verizon Droid Incredible 2 will be a world phone

HTC’s Droid Incredible 2 for Verizon hasn’t exactly been the best kept secret over the past few months, and it looks like some of the remaining few details about the phone have now also been cleared up by some more leaked documents obtained by Android Central. Assuming they are indeed legit, it’s looking like the Incredible 2 will be a world phone with both CMDA and GSM connectivity, and that it will boast a new 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera to go along with the standard 8 megapixel shooter ’round back. You can also apparently count on getting a 16-megapixel microSD card with the phone, and it seems that use of the 3G mobile hotspot will cost you an extra $20 for 20GB — although Android Central notes that may well be a typo. Here’s hoping Verizon finally clears up some of those details itself sooner rather than later.

Samsung Galaxy Tab stars in leaked slide, T-Mobile version to cost $399?

If what we’re looking at is really and truly a legitimate T-Mobile slide, then we’ve got practically the last part of the Galaxy Tab puzzle — that ever-elusive price point — as it states the slate will charm your wallet out of $399. That’d be a bit of a disappointment if true, as that’s the most we were told to expect and twice the Galaxy S’s price despite lacking telephone functionality. Still, it’s the first legitimately impressive Android tablet, and being on the bleeding edge isn’t cheap. We just wonder if Sammy can truly sell ten million on two-year contracts — or worse, going head to head at an unsubsidized $649 with the iPad 3G. Say it ain’t so, Sammy.

Leaked Xbox 360 dashboard gets demonstrated on video

We’ve already gotten a brief look at the new Xbox 360 Dashboard that’s leaked out courtesy of the Kinect beta program, but now that it’s well and truly leaked across the internet, we’re getting a much better picture of what’s in store for the rest of us later this fall. As you can see above and in the pair of videos after the break, the new Dashboard is decidedly squarer than the current one, and contains few elements that haven’t gone untouched. You can also now even try out the new Dashboard yourself relatively easily, though you may run into a bit of trouble if you actually want to do thing like play games online.

Motorola clamps down on Droid X’s leaked Android 2.2 upgrade with cease and desist scare

Hoping to spoon-feed your Droid X some Froyo before the official OTA rollout? You’d better do it now — Motorola’s sending out cease and desist emails in an attempt to shut the leaked ROM down. We can’t say whether it’s just red tape or to protect customers from a EVO 4G-like non-final build, but for whatever reason Motorola’s director of information security is asking sites like MyDroidWorld to remove the files ASAP. Given the company’s recent history with the mod community, however, we imagine there’s some sort of walled-garden reason behind it.

[Thanks, Dustin D.]
