Viber comes to Symbian, S40 and Bada, adds HD voice calling and group messaging to Nokia Lumia handsets

Viber comes to Nokia Lumias running Windows 7, brings HD Voice calling, group messaging

VoIP-over-3G app Viber broke down in tears when it learned that, after Android, iOS and Windows Phone, there were no new worlds to conquer. Then a helpful soul pointed out that there were more than 1.5 Billion S40 devices in the world, and it set about adding that to the existing 100 million users of its service. In addition, it’s bringing its free-calls platform to Symbian and Bada handsets while current Nokia Lumia owners running Windows Phone 7 will find they can now access HD voice calls and group calls. iOS users shouldn’t feel left out, however, since an update to their app will add support for a variety of languages including Simplified Chinese, Hebrew and Portuguese.

Windows Phone ‘Tango’ may be Mango’s successor, geared toward less-expensive handsets

Windows Phone’s Mango update was released to manufacturers for testing two weeks ago, and you know what that means — it’s time to speculate on what’s lined up after the still-unreleased refresh. Mary Jo Foley’s dishing out some juicy rumors from sources that the next version of Windows Phone is codenamed “Tango,” and has a few tricks up its sleeves. The new OS would have a tighter focus on Nokia’s desire to bring lower-priced phones to the fold; it’ll also apparently target the Asian market “largely or even exclusively.” This prediction sounds as though Tango would only be pushed to inexpensive handsets, effectively turning Windows Phone into a two-tiered platform — but as many rumors go, we’re still waiting for a little more meat to chew on before making such a conjecture. If the new codename sticks, however, we expect to see a video chat service that won’t be too happy with the news. We’ll grab the popcorn and get a good seat for the (lopsided) duel that’s sure to come.

Motorola leaks Xoom 2 tablet, Tracy XL watchphone, and Slimline, Zaha, Targa, and Pearl handsets

So here’s the story: Pocketnow was able to snatch some screengrabs from a page that temporarily appeared on the Motorola Mobility website. The image above (and two more after the break) is what they saw. In addition to the Tracy XL homage to the Dick Tracy watchphone, we can also see the back of the Slimline handset and the front of the Zaha. The grabs also show a bit of the “Xoom 2″ tablet and Pearl handset along the bottom of the screen in addition to a fleeting glimpse of the previously rumored Verizon LTE handset known as Targa. And you know what makes this all truly compelling? The fact that Motorola made Pocketnow remove the images from its site.
