Holiday Teasing: Impressive Villa Baie on the French Riviera

French Riviera enthusiasts will probably fall for this highly modern villa situated just a 15 minute drive away from the city of Monaco. Villa Baie (discovered on Leo Trippi) is conveniently perched on the heights of Villefranche, offering panoramic sea views from each of its five bedrooms. Inside and out, the retreat is characterized by refinement and opulence.

Even a quick, general view of the place will reveal impressive features: “The exteriors are set with extensive furnished terraces and a heated infinity pool facing the sea that extends with a garden. The interiors bathed with sunlight comprise, on the upper floor an entrance hall from the parking and garage, the master suite with dressing and bathroom, one double bedroom with bathroom and one double bedroom with shower, all opening onto the solarium terrace“. The rooms are minimalist, yet exude daring colors, giving away a feeling of energy. Enjoy the photos!

PixelQi has heavy night, wakes up married to French ‘PadPro’ tablet
What has Mary Lou Jepsen been up to since 3M’s cash injection? It’s hard to say, but her sunlight-readable PixelQi panels are still popping up on the odd device — like this Windows 7 slate from little-known Evigroup. The 10-inch PadPro is aimed at graphics types who are willing to bid adieu to €599 ($800) in return for a pressure-sensitive display, a 1.6GHz Atom processor (no mention of Cedar Trail), 1GB RAM and 160GB hard-drive. They also need to really hate Android.

Samsung’s attempted iPhone 4S block in Italy denied, already missed its French connection
Last October, Samsung made a new attack in its ongoing patent war with Apple, filing motions to block sales of the iPhone 4S in both France and Italy, alleging infringements of patents relating to WCDMA standards for 3G-enabled devices. About a month ago the French motion was denied and now we’re learning that an Judge Marina Tavassi of the Italian Tribunale di Milano has said “negato” as well. What’s next? We hear Brazil is lovely this time of year…

UK and French carriers working on cellular coverage for Channel Tunnel, aim to finish by 2012 Olympics
If you live in a technophile city like Taipei, you’ll have been enjoying underground 4G for a long time now, but in London the rule is that you have to bid adieu to your mobile connectivity when diving into a tunnel. The city’s Mayor has been active in encouraging (forcing?) the major British carriers to install the necessary equipment to provide coverage on the Tube, and now we’re hearing that ambition has stretched beyond the nation’s borders as well. The Daily Telegraph reports that Vodafone, O2, Everything Everywhere, and Three from the UK along with Orange, SFR and Bouygues from France have agreed to share the cost of putting together a £20 million ($30.8m) project for making cellular coverage possible while traveling through the 31.4-mile Channel Tunnel between the two countries. The goal is to get things up and running by the Olympics in 2012, though we’ve no indication as to what speeds those wireless data transfers will reach. Still, having some bars is better than none, right?

Achieving the Sought After French Country Styled Kitchen
The French Country kitchen style is everywhere, from celebrities homes to home improvement television shows, they are currently the ‘it’ kitchen style. There is no wonder they are popular, the mixtures of relaxed, and worn finishes along with lighter tones of colors is appealing to anyone who enjoys spending time in their kitchen. This style is reminiscent of a simpler country life, where artisans and laborers enjoyed their homes and the craftsmanship of exposed wood beams was common place. Looking to achieve this look in your home? Here’s how to achieve the French Country kitchen style in your home.
CABINETRY: Worn surfaces with muted color themes are typical of the French Country kitchen. Slight ornamentation and crown molding often adorns upper cabinets. Knotted pine and walnut wood cabinets are rich in textures but light in appearance. Darker woods and painted cabinetry can be combined with the lighter cabinets to give French Country style a modern edge.
ISLANDS/COUNTERTOPS: Family, large meals, and celebrating life’s accomplishments is historically how families and neighbors gathered around the kitchen. The French Country kitchen combines that feeling in the architecture and design of the kitchen. Granite, marble, and wood islands with additional seating brings guests and host together, this is the true tradition of French Country styling. Countertops adorned with farmer’s house sinks, and pot filler faucets adjacent to the stove, are bonus touches that makes a French Country kitchen desirable.
Remember the old world styling of metal candelabras made from forged iron? Iron, brushed oil copper and metal with aged patinas are gorgeous when combined with copper hanging pots above a counter or sink. Iron scroll imitation candelabras are popular in today’s high end furniture store catalogs. To create centerpieces for the dining room table – use vintage wine bottles in various sizes and colors, coupled with fresh flowers to mimic the French Country way of entertaining and bringing people together.
FIREPLACES/HEARTHS: Who doesn’t love gathering around a roaring fire, or baking a pizza in an authentic brick oven? Common in luxury French Country kitchens are fireplaces that can be used for ambiance, or to cook. Many kitchens copy this styling by adding fume hoods and decorative brick/stone arches throughout the kitchen to give the feeling of the hearth around the space. Mosaic tiles, and backsplashes behind the stove sometimes takes the same warmth cue – with having fireplace images hand painted on the tiles. Remember French Country, like other décor styles it is about evoking a familiar feeling of the traditional, simpler life and all the amenities that it offers.
Freshome Reader’s, do you remember the Cottage Style décor featured last week? The French Country has similar qualities that make both styles so inviting. Do you have either of these décor styles in your home? What’s your favorite way to bring the feeling of relaxed living into your home?
