If you are a fan of industrial design, then you will certainly find the Beams Chair (envisioned by Berlin-based Eric and Johnny Design Studio) original and appealing. The lightweight wooden armchair was inspired by the H-beam structure of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and despite its fragile look, it is promised to offer great stability.

According to the designer, the chair is made of three different kinds of wood: bent plywood, multiplex and aircraft plywood: “The strength of the structure of the plywood and multiplex thin sheets is quite strong in one direction, while relatively weak in other direction. By combining the two wood sheets in a way so to offer directional perpendicular wooden structures and to build the H-Beam structure, there are two strong dimensions so the anti-twisting ability and compression strength as well as the stability of the chair are tremendously improved“. Curious on how the product was achieved?- check out the video at the end of the post!

Original Chair Design Inspired by Temporary Market Coverings

Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance had an unusual source of inspiration when designing the chair “Market” for the publishing house Petite Friture. The minimalist piece is partially mimics the structures and wood slats that form market stalls: “This project comes from one of the few places that makes the link between all social strata of a city, a village market. The market is also the only space that binds directly to the producer and the consumer and which constantly reminding us of our communication needs, meetings, exchange and simplicity. ”

The chair is composed of a solid structure and a wooden covering with slats, mounted on cork. According to the designer,”the slats fall naturally and freely on the rear of the backrest thus accentuating the distinction between the two elements of Market”. We personally appreciate its elegance and find it very easy to adapt to a variety of modern interiors. What do you think of this market-inspired chair?

Pocket Chair Looking a Little Bit Eccentric, Yet Sophisticated

An awesome design and all the comfort in the world: this is what the Pocket Chair promises to those who are willing to experience it. The studio responsible with the design is simply called DING3000, a fun and nonconformist name, indeed! The body is made of wood and leather, it washes easily and it literally slips its wooden legs into…pockets. Each leg with its private pocket. The material, cuoietto leather is quite special because of its adaptability. “The cozy shape gives it a familiar, yet sophisticated look. Washable and resistant, it can be used in different contexts, from home to office but also in lounge bars, wine shops and restaurants”.

The design is unique and eccentric. This makes you part of a story that understands the values of innovation. Now, how about testing it?! Imagine yourself sitting back and relaxing, reading a good book and enjoying a wonderful cup of tea. The Pocket Chair not only looks good, but it also feels good. The best thing about it is that it actually fits everywhere. In case you are looking to buy the Pocket Chair, you can find it here.

A Stylish Chair Design: Walnut Shell Seat by Tony O’Neill
London based designer Tony O’Neill envisioned the Walnut Shell Seat, an elegant chair showcasing an interesting wooden pattern. The project is composed of panels CNC routed in solid timber and joined together to the seat pan by finger-like lap segments. According to the designer, “although the construction is carefully considered, the furniture piece emphasizes the effect on the grain pattern by taking curved cuts through the wood. The grain was modeled by computer software before the cuts were made so as to predict the possible effects“.

The Walnut Shell Seat is both has a stylish appearance and is easy to integrate in almost any modern interior. We would like to see this piece in a set of six (table included). From our end, the design also looks ergonomic, with its hand and backrest providing a high level of comfort. How would you comment on its overall appearance?

Bursting with Originality: Sunflower Chair with Smart Integrated Bookcase

Just when we thought we’ve seen it all in chair design, this creative idea left us speechless. Framed by an integrated bookcase, the innovative Sunflower Chair created by designers He Mu and Zhang Qian from the Shanghai University of Engineering Science may occupy more space than your common living room chair, but its functionality more than makes up for that inconvenience. According to Chair Blog, the model recently won the Redtory Design Award at the Design for Sitting Gran Prix competition in Guangzhou, China. And that comes as no surprise; the Sunflower Chair bursts with originality and is one of those items that has “must have” written all over it. A fluffy cushion provides a high level of comfort and the possibility to relax in more than one body position. A clever shelving system for books and magazines surrounds the user, who can simply reach out and grab his or her favorite publication. The supporting legs are barely noticeable, a design approach that emphasizes on the “sunflower” itself. How would you comment on the overall design of this chair? Would you consider it as an addition to your home?

Isola Chair by Claesson Koivisto Rune for Tacchini
Claesson Koivisto Rune have designed the the Isola chair for Tacchini.
.
Description from the designers:
ISOLA is a new typology of armchair. A furniture design for today, where we are constantly connected to the internet via laptops, tablets, smartphones and other portable devices.
While using these devices in many public or semi-private situations, we noticed that seating postures change. People tend to lounge around, seeking unconventional positions and generally sitting in a more relaxed fashion.
As a response to this, we designed a wide and roomy seat-shell with a gently-organic shape lacking an obvious direction. Combined with an integrated, oval tabletop, Isola moves away from other more rigid solutions and encourages more open and intuitive use.
Of course, having the small table close at hand makes for a very practical place to rest your (analogue) book, glass of wine, or a bite to eat too.

Solid and Flexible Bamboo Chair In Limited Edition

The Bamboestoel (Dutch for Bamboo Chair) is a great chair design that captures the potential of a fascinating and versatile material. By using one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth to create a standstill of its texture and properties to create a nest-like design, the artists working on the project – Tejo Remy and Rene Veenhuizen – give the impression of considering the implications of loosing contact with our natural environment. It seems to me like bamboo is a material that constantly reminds us of something sensual and precious. Using bamboo instead of wood allows the artist to create a solid yet highly flexible design and the round corners and perfect thickness of the bamboo strips create a stunning representation of natural materials enhanced through modern woodworking techniques. The limited edition bamboo chair we found on BlogDecoDesign could be that object with a story behind it, the great design that adorns your inspired home. Or maybe you have other bamboo chairs you liked and would love to share them with us.
