Virgin Atlantics New Upper Class Bar And Cabin 1 Virgin Atlantics New Upper Class Bar And Cabin Virtual Design Tour

Virgin Atlantic teamed up with VW + BS studio to shape a new experience for passengers riding the airline 30 000 feet in the air. The first time the new upper class bar and cabin enchanted its guests was this spring, on a route from London to New York. This new aircraft hospitality space concept was created to encourage social interaction between passengers in an innovative atmosphere built for a plane with the strictest safety regulations. Virgin Atlantic’s New Upper Class Bar And Cabin is the sophisticated result of creative thinking based on giving the design studio free hand to redesign one of Virgin’s planes.

Urban Cabin by Fábio Galeazzo

Fábio Galeazzo has designed the “Urban Cabin” in São Paulo, Brazil.

.

Description from the designer:

In an old abandoned house were used retrofit construction techniques. The existing structure couldn’t handle the heavy load and was complemented by a sustainable framework of giant bamboo beams and columns treated in autoclaves, the roof received green thermal tiles.

On the floor it was used certificated management timber and some exotic brown granite as well as some walls and ceiling. In order to counter the whole structure and highlight the house amid the dense vegetation the interior and exterior walls were treated as a state of art and received several irregular shapes in different colors inspired in the universe of the modernist painter Tarsila do Amaral.

Outside, a stretch nautical fabric shades the area of the car and a great counter with tiles of different patterns glad the barbecue area which has communication with the swivel kitchen, allowing several combinations between internal and external area.

Inside, with the aim of enhance the view and increase communication between internal and external area a large shelf built in a circular shape frames the landscape. In the decoration design furniture as the giant bed-shaped nest, the “Chifruda” chair from the designer Sergio Rodrigues, the dinner table,”2 in 1″ from the designers Campana brothers and Scandinavian furniture fit perfect on the rustic structure.

The Shack is a contemporary version of housing that brings back the idea of one space living, matching technology and design proposing a new young way of living.

Small, One Room Cabin in Massachusetts With an Impressive Layout

The Small House 01 Small, One Room Cabin in Massachusetts With an Impressive Layout

We ran across this ingeniously-structured small cabin, with a living surface of just 750 square feet (about 70 square meters) designed by studio Maryann Thompson Architects and located in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, USA. Despite its modest size, the small home accommodates a kitchen, living, dining areas and two sleeping alcoves and gives away a feeling of space. Here is more from the architects’ official project description: “The house also incorporates such commonsense sustainable strategies as radiant structural slab, which maximizes opportunities for passive solar gain through the broad expanses of glass on the south and east elevations. Natural cooling is achieved with the stack effect through operable skylights and ceiling fans”.

Mountain Cabin Accommodating a Peaceful Way of Living: Foster Loop Residence

Foster Loop 111 Mountain Cabin Accommodating a Peaceful Way of Living: Foster Loop Residence

The Foster Loop residence was designed by Balance Associates Architects and is a 1,653 square-foot , two-story cabin located in Mazama Village. in the eastern part of Washington state, USA. The site of the project was enjoyed by the owners for many years, in their camping trips. According to the architects, “the design minimizes impact to the environment by raising the residence off the ground with small concrete piers. The entry to the house is a slightly elevated walk that leads to the entry and stair. This entry opens up to a 1 1/2 story living space and kitchen which are anchored by a centrally located fireplace and the stair. This stair leads to the tent like bedrooms with low walls on the second floor. Both ends of the residence have indoor/outdoor spaces. There is also a deck and elevated catwalk that runs between the trees, across a small valley, and empties onto a grassy clearing in the woods.” Find this home as appealing as we do?

False Bay Writer’s Cabin by Olson Kundig Architects

Olson Kundig Architects designed a cabin on San Juan Island in Washington State.

.

Description from the architects:

The cabin is five hundred square feet and is a private writers retreat and guest cottage.  Located on San Juan Island, Washington, the owners wanted the cabin to feel contacted to its setting, the climate, the wildlife and views. They also needed a structure that could be easily secured when not in use.

The cabin was designed as a glass house surrounded by three wooden slat decks that can be raised by a hydraulic system of wires, rope, pivoting sheaves and lead blocks, that serves as shutters.  When open, the shutter decks are outdoor living spaces; when closed they secure the cabin.  The fireplace rotates 180 degrees to be enjoyed indoors or out.  An inverted roof with deep overhangs forces water to  drain to the rear of the cabin.

The cabin is a single room with a small kitchenette and a bathroom.  Finishes are restrained, punctuated only by a blackened steel inlay that bisects the floor from the fireplace to the slot window at the rear of the cabin.

Contemporary Cabin with Intriguing Design Details in Washington State

modern residence Freshome015 Contemporary Cabin with Intriguing Design Details in Washington State

This contemporary 1,300 square foot cabin was designed by Stuart Silk Architects and is located on Lopez Island in Washington State. The building accommodates a living area plus kitchen, two small bedrooms bedrooms and two bathrooms. According to the architects, “a single shed roof cantilevers over this space, evoking a sense of protection and blurring the distinction between interior and exterior. The material selections and construction methods emphasize economy, low maintenance, and energy conservation.  Slab-on-grade construction is used for the interior flooring and adjacent terraces, simplifying construction and minimizing the use of raw materials. Corrugated metal siding and locally-sourced ground face concrete block (used in the interior spaces as well as the exterior) are durable, economical and true to the cabin aesthetic. Site disturbance is strictly localized, allowing for only minor construction grading that follows the natural contours of the site and preserves natural vegetation The concrete block walls and floor also serve as a thermal mass, regulating the interior temperature by storing daytime heat and releasing it at night“. How do you find this modern approach of a traditional cabin?

Timber Cabin to House Parking Ticket Machine by Jean-Luc Fugier

dezeen Parking Attendants Pavilion by JeanLuc Fugier 01 Timber Cabin to House Parking Ticket Machine by Jean Luc Fugier

Architect Jean-Luc Fugier created a small modern looking building that currently houses a parking ticket machine, a kiosk window, a parking attendants office and a restroom. The project is located outside Aix-en-Provence, France. Here is a description from the project developer: “ The architectural expression of the pavilion was found in the contradiction between controlling and welcoming the public, forming a duality between a plain building that groups the necessary mechanisms for control while realizing that which is necessary to create a welcoming public atmosphere. Driven by the environmental context from which the project is derived as well as the surrounding landscape, we looked at the concept of a cabin. Natural and environmentally friendly materials from local industry that were acquired from nearby businesses and carried out by local labour with remarkable skill demonstrate a real approach to sustainable architecture, from concept to construction. It’s about giving meaning to architecture that is capable of expressing the environmental goals established by vehicle drop-off programs.”. Find it friendly? [Photography by Philippe Piron].
