Minimalist Apartment Design in Moscow Spiced Up With Bold Colors: White Cube

Minimalism in interior design is usually associated with soberness, a high level of practicability and lack of personality. But we ran over an interesting apartment design in Moscow, which seems to defy some of the rules. White Cube was envisioned and implemented by Sergey Nasedkin and Anna Ulyanova (principals of Russian studio ARCH.625) and showcases an interesting mix of materials and decorations, spiced up with daring colors.

The original apartment has a total surface of 861 square feet (about 80 square meters), yet its layout and design inspires space throughout. White walls define the interiors and wood is partially employed to create stunning visual contrasts. Natural light during the day is ensured by various windows in key places, while subtle lighting in the ceilings contribute to an “alert” atmosphere during the evenings and night time. But for us, the highlights of this apartment are the decorations, seamlessly blending in the overall composition. What is your stand on this apartment design? See any particular details you enjoy?

Transparent Graph Table For Bold Office Spaces

Consisting of a clear glass tabletop resting on a folded glass stand, the Graph Table is bold enough to stand out between similar furniture pieces. Belgian designer Xavier Lust collaborated with Italian furniture manufacturers FIAM to create this stunning desk displaying its curved 19 mm thick glass shape that filters each setting it lands in. Secured by polished stainless steel ties that create a visual anchor in reality with their rounded shape, the fluid glass desk lends elegance to its surrounding space. According to its creator, the table boasts a dynamic and simple shape, two important qualities in modern furniture design: “The fast lines of this desk seem to originate from a quick sketch, an impulsive gesture or the analytic curves of a chart. With elegant fluid lines and an immaterial yet equilibrated lightness, Graph affixes it’s signature stamp.” Pair it up with a sleek chair and enjoy a sophisticated office display.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 Bellagio photographed in the wild, poses for family portrait
If you haven’t yet snagged one of RIM’s two newly refreshed Bold devices, you might want to hold off for the runt of the litter. Originally leaked back in May, the Bellagio 9790 borrows the bumped-up specs of its recently unveiled cousins, while staying true to the slimmed-down form factor of its 9700 predecessor. The leaked shots over at BGR show the diminutive portrait QWERTY next to the 9900, clearly showcasing the former’s likely 2.4-inch touchscreen, optical trackpad and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera. We already know this phone’s destined to ship with BlackBerry 7 OS, but as for the rest of the feature list, expect it to pack 8GB of storage, NFC-capability and a 1.2GHz processor. Of course, rumors being what they are, this could all very well change before the handset’s purported end of year launch. Curious to see more? Then hit up the source link below for additional in-the-wild shots.

Current Lets its Bold Flag Fly

Launched in 2005 by former Vice President Al Gore (before An Inconvenient Truth fame) and entrepreneur Joel Hyatt, Current TV was originally a pretty drastic model of programming, featuring user-generated “pods” reflecting a broad range of topics and opinions that lasted anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes. You could tune in at any time of day and just jump right in into whatever was going on and not have to worry about following typically scheduled programming. This was the same year YouTube launched and before it went as big as it is now, so the concept was fairly ahead of the curve. Current gathered some initial attention but then it just kind of disappeared as the novelty wore off and despite hiring former MTV Networks’ President Mark Rosenthal, toying with the idea of going public, and transitioning into 30- and 60-minute programming Current felt anything but. Enter Keith Olbermann, the love-him-or-hate-him, ex-ESPN anchor turned political commentator. In February Current announced that Olbermann would be taking his show, Countdown With Keith Olbermann, from MSNBC to their cable channel starting June 20. Reminiscent of when Howard Stern announced he would be leaving the broader air waves for SiriusXM, Olbermann’s move to Current gave it instant relevance. Last week, Current quietly introduced a new look, launched the website for Olbermann’s show, Countdown, and over the Summer will be implementing the new look. The identity has been designed by Wolff Olins with motion assistance by Ghava, the on-air look is by loyalkaspar, and web design by Code and Theory.

The previous identity was designed by Meta Design and Peter Saville and, at the time, the idea of a pixelated logo was somewhat forgivable despite the internet-sized cliché it represented. Six years later and the idea is inexcusable. Looking dated is an understatement. Current needed an extreme statement to indicate a completely new direction and almost erase its previous history to establish a new reputation. A flag, signaling they have arrived and that they stand for a specific kind of journalism, is exactly what they needed. And it looks awesome. Conceived as a moving logo first and static logo second, the execution is dynamic, bold, and innovative without feeling like it’s trying hard to be cool and relevant. The black and white approach also gives it a sharp edge in contrast to all the colorful identities found on TV. The identity applications and on-air look are still limited but everything shows plenty of promise. So far, one of my favorite logos of the year.

Adding Drama to your Room with Bold Wall Patterns
If you like a shot of bold color or even a bold wall pattern to set the tone for your interiors, then you most likely enjoy a dramatic space that tells a story. Adding drama to your room with bold wall patterns is an easy way to bring in whimsical touches, or a serious overtone into your space. Bold can be one element, bold can take up your entire wall, or bold can be a pattern or color that makes you double take when you step in the room. Whichever is your interpretation of bold, here are ways to bring them into your interiors.

- Saturation of color and pattern: One way to go bold in your interiors is by using color and pattern in high saturation levels. If you love red and orange – two highly saturated colors then put them together and start the drama! Try pairing colors together that are complimentary to bring visual interest, and for ease of pairing furniture and decor in the space. Remember, you still have to live in this space, so make it funky but still livable and not an eye sore! Try using saturation of muted tones and patterns to still get a wow factor visually, this can be accomplished with mixing neutrals and bold variations too.
- Be creative: If you are one who likes to have unique forms and styling in your home, try using bold and creative forms of design expression. Wall decals are an easy way to get this look and still change your mind if you want! Pair wall decals with light fixtures, shelving, or even furniture to give 2D elements the look of 3D creative elements. You will be surprised how a bed that didn’t have a headboard, now looks sophisticated and fun with the addition of a bold wall decal.

- Busy and bold: Have you ever noticed some of the boldest and busiest wall patterns make the room a pleasure to be in? The trick? Using simple color schemes coupled with the busy wall patterns. There is no rule that says you can’t use bold and busy wall art, wallpaper, or patterns. Although, to keep your eyes from bugging out your head, it is best to make the colors subtle, neutral, and complimentary. If you thought a black and white bedroom could only be boring and simple, think again! To unite all the element of your room, choose a unifying pattern to use throughout. For example a wall detail can be repeated in your bedding, headboard, and furniture.

- Bold materials: If you prefer to keep the colors and patterns simple but want to bring a touchable boldness to your interiors, try using finishes and materials that attract interest immediately. Try using an accent wall of stone, brick, wood or metal that has a bold presence. While most people consider boldness only in the patterns, boldness can come from a feeling of strength and structure in the layout of the materials. Use repetitive themes of natural stone or river rocks to make your fireplace dominate your space. Bold materials will command a presence!

Bold drama in your interiors can be a simple shift of focus as to what you consider to be bold and eye catching. Use these simple tips to take your interior walls from hardly noticed, to conversation starters. If you are a do it yourselfer (DIY) visit your local home improvement store to see what new products are on the market. From paints and wall finishes, to wall paper and cool materials, your walls can be bold with the right creativity. Go for it, your dramatic interiors are waiting to be unleashed.

How to Tastefully Go Bold in your Interiors
When trying to add a bold statement to your home interiors don’t go overboard and make your guests run from the room! Bold doesn’t have to be over the top in fact a saturation of color for your accent wall, could be all of the bold appeal you need. In recent home interior trends, textiles, wall colors, and furnishings are showing a transition to making a statement in your space. If you like your home to represent your bold personality and way of decorating, here are helpful tips to tastefully “bold up” your interiors!

- Accentuate with bold color: To tastefully bring bold into your interiors with color, determine which color will accentuate your space best. If you have an ample portion of natural light pouring into your space, a darker and more dramatic color can amplify the room without feeling overpowering. If your space doesn’t have a lot of light, opt for brighter colors or more saturated hues of color. This will naturally reflect more light, and will make your bold color feel inviting instead of shocking.
- Using bold decor: Do you have any bold artwork or accessories that you want to display, but don’t want your furnishings to clash? Try using a neutral palette of whites, and blacks as a backdrop to your gorgeous bold decor. By choosing one or two colors throughout your space for unity, you can showcase wall artwork, sculptural pieces, or even have a bold area rug that makes a statement for the whole room. The trick is balance. For every bold piece of decor, balance it with neutrals in your furnishings, and room finishes, and the look will be perfect.

- Bold and subdued: Some of the greatest interior spaces are ones in which the play between bold and subdued are combined to make the space an experience for the inhabitant. If you have a killer lime green couch that you absolutely love, try placing it amongst more tame furnishings that pick up the lime green details, but are more subdued in their styling. Consider using a mixture of traditional styled decor with trendy bold colors. The balance between bold color and classical lines will make the room have a beautiful synergy.

- Make a statement: Your home is the one place on this Earth that no one has to dictate how it looks, so make a statement! If you like a bold light fixture that is questionable in a space, figure out how to play up the rest of the room to make your light fixture fit in. It may be removing a bold color from your walls, or it may be as simple as taking down the dark window treatments, and letting in more natural light. However you want to make your home feel like its unique, go for it!

Bold interiors can be the best thing that happens to your home. Bold colors, decor, and accessories can bring out your personality without you saying a word when guests visit. Inspiration decor blogs and helpful home decor publications are filled with designer bold themes to get ideas. If you prefer, make up your own eclectic style and be proud to show it off in your home. After all, if you don’t experiment with bold interiors, your neighbors will and you will be envious!

Bold City 1901 Red Ale

New work from Kendrick Kidd at The Robin Shepherd Group: “Bold City Brewery’s Red Ale has been a favorite among BCB patrons since the brewery opened in late 2008. My good friend & super talented copywriter, Jacquie Wojcik came up with the name 1901 Red Ale to commemorate jacksonville’s perseverance through the 1901 fires, and nod at the brew’s roasted flavor. The 1901 Red Ale label & tap designs complete the newest series of 3 for the young brewery.”
