Samsung Series 9 Premium with Intel Core i7 and 1080p display available now for $1,400
Last month, Samsung outed an update to the 13-inch Series 9 that saw its 1,600 x 900 LCD display replaced with the glory of full 1080p. And starting today, that Windows 8 Ultrabook is going on sale with pretty much the same internal configuration it had in a previous, less Premium life — save for the 2GHz Core i7 inside. For a cool $1,400, you’re looking at 4GB of RAM, an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU, WiFi a/b/g/n and a 128GB SSD all neatly packed into an aluminum unibody design. So, you can do your eyes a favor (and your wallet some significant damage) by trading up now. Or stick with what you’ve got. Don’t worry, if they don’t ask, you don’t have to tell Intel.

NVIDIA’s GRID VCA now available to graphic crunching pros at a cool $24,900
While it won’t supercharge Crysis or other games like its upcoming Cloud Gaming device may, NVIDIA’s GRID Visual Computing Appliance is now up for grabs to designers, animators and visual production types for $24,900 plus a $2,400 yearly software license fee. That sum will merely get you the starter model consisting of 8 GPUs, 16 threads of CPU and 192GB of RAM to service up to 8 users, while the 16 GPU model — which doubles all that up — is hitting the dreaded “contact us” price point. For reasonable-sized studios with multiple designers or artists, though, it’d allow humdrum machines to link up via a network and still crunch complex models — making the price rather beside the point for us individual users. For more info, hit the PR after the jump.

New Google Indoor Maps Service, With Over 10,000 Floor Plans Available via Mobile

If you are a shopping enthusiast, or simply find it practical to have an indoor map of a mall when looking for a certain household object, this new service launched by Google Maps will come in handy. Google Indoor Maps comes with over 10,000 indoor layouts, for stores, malls, casinos, museums and airports around the world. And this is just the beginning, as anyone can upload their own building plan online.

The service is currently available in selected locations in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, the U.S., Sweden, and Switzerland. Navigating on Google Indoor Maps is just like exploring Google Maps. All you have to do is type in the location and zoom into the map, until you see the floor plan. Nyko’s TegraZone PlayPad game controllers now available: two different styles for $39.99 each
The PlayPad and the PlayPad Pro controllers from Nyko have just reported for Android gaming duties, each carrying a $39.99 sticker. There’s no sign of the multicolored options we saw back in June, but the PlayPad does come in black or white and is bundled with a carry case and a folding stand for phones and tablets, while its larger and apparently more ergonomic sibling is offered only in black and is a GameStop exclusive. The wireless duo latch on to Android (3.0 or greater) devices using Bluetooth and are optimized for those with a Tegra processor, such as the Nexus 7 and the HTC One X+. There’s an app — called Playground — which lets either controller work with legacy titles that don’t specifically support its Bluetooth instructions, along with a mouse mode, PC and Mac support, and even the option to play on iOS devices loaded with iCade games. Sure, these controllers may not have faux-recoil or venomous branding, but perhaps they don’t need to — especially since they’re cheaper than some of the competition.

Google Maps Street View will be available via Mobile Safari in two weeks
According to many of our readers, if Apple’s iOS 6 Maps software isn’t suitably filling in for the old Google-powered Maps then the quickest workaround is simply using Google Maps as a web app. While we’ll likely be waiting some time to find out if a standalone replacement from Google really is in the cards, The New York Times‘ David Pogue mentions — while bemoaning some navigation related mishaps in the new app — Street View imagery will be accessible that way “in two weeks.” Hopefully users will find that makes the wait easier, but at least they’re not making you carry around one of those backpacks to make it all work.

CyanogenMod 10 preview build now available for Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus
We know it didn’t take much time for the Tenth iteration of that CM greatness to reach Google’s popular Nexus 7 and Samsung’s most colossal Galaxy handset on the block, but one other Android big shot was still yet to join the “preview build” bash. The marvelous news is Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners can now also take part in the early adoption process, as CyanogenMod’s Brint Kriebel has said via Mountain View’s social network that CM10 for Big Red’s GNex is out and up for grabs. That said, he’s let it be known the goods aren’t exactly fully baked, though he has been rockin’ it as his “daily driver” for about two weeks — which, needless to say, is quite a good sign. Those interested in going a step further can hit up bekit’s Google+ page, where you’ll find the rest of the underlying details.
