Original Mix Between Small Hotel and Private Apartment Rental: Flattered

Presented to us by Welcome Beyond, Flattered is a mix between a small hotel and a private apartment rental, located in the historical city of Porto. The project features 5 modern apartments in a building featuring a mix of vintage furniture and illustrations by up-and-coming Portuguese artists adorning the walls. All apartments were open spaces originally and the idea was to have the flexibility to accept more than two people in each apartment, basically offering an extra bed without intruding into the space.

The solution was to install wooden boxes that are a little higher than the floor, with a drawer bed that is concealed underneath and can be pulled out. According to the owner of the unusual apartments, Flattered is an attempt to create something cozy and warm, different from the hotel chains. A place where people can feel at home, yet at the same time they can experience cool design. The apartments are fully equipped to be self-catering. They have kitchens with all the appliances one needs as well as unique items that aren’t standard. [Photos and information provided via e-mail by Welcome Beyond]

Extensive Collection of Art and Books Adorning the F5 Apartment in Stuttgart

If you ever wondered how art and literature can contribute to the design of a modern apartment, here is a live example. Apartment F5 was especially envisioned by Fleitz Group Identity Architects to accommodate the extensive art collection and hundreds of books belonging to an older couple living in Stuttgart, Germany. The result is elegant and visually intriguing- a youthful space, enhanced by color and creativity.

The main hallway is adorned with floor-to-ceiling bookcases divided by flush-mounted doors, which give away the feel of walking through a museum gallery or genuine library. According to the architects’ description, “sliding doors crafted from dark wood conceal the entrances to the living and dining area. In the other rooms the display of art works alternates between strictly defined areas, such as on the sliding walls in the study or above the seating corner in the living area, and a playfully free formation”. Shades of beige and green ensure a sober tone, an elegant base for all the “knowledge” this home possesses.

Vibrant Two-Floor Apartment in Stockholm’s Gamla Stan

A picturesque property from the 1600s in Stockholm’s scenic Old Town was the “context” for developing a modern apartment spiced up with classic details. Discovered on Skeppsholmen, this fascinating Scandinavian duplex has a total surface of 112 square meters and three rooms. On the bottom level there is a large hallway, which leads towards the main bedroom as well as to a large storage space for clothes and shoes.

There is a single bathroom in the apartment, also located below. Classic stairs lead the way to the spectacular upper level, where exposed beams create a cozy atmosphere. It is here that you will find the open plan living and dining space- a bright and clean interior, flooded in natural light from the windows/ skylights. As in most Scandinavian homes, the walls are painted in white, generating a strong contrast with the wooden beams and red sofa. The result is truly mesmerizing.

Small Swedish Apartment Exhibiting Charming Design Details

Welcome to a small Swedish apartment where refinement meets practicability. Discovered on Alvhem, this 37,5 square meter gem is located in the city of Gothenburg and offers the best of two eras: original parquet floors, high ceilings and built-in wardrobe (typical for the 1940s) and hyper-modern kitchens and bathrooms recently renovated in 2011. The apartment has a spacious living room with an alcove, a kitchen with enough dining space for four and a small bathroom.

Once inside the apartment, you are greeted by a hallway, with hidden storage space on the side. The walls are painted in gray, contrasting the white woodwork for an elegant impression. The living room has just enough space to accommodate a large sofa, a bookcase and the TV furniture, but the ceiling height of three meters does a great job enhancing the interior. The alcove seems particularly charming and comfortable- how do you like it?

Energy and Diversity Inspired by Original Apartment in Moscow

Designer Alexander Akinkyn came up with surprising design solutions for a home remodel in Moscow. The 13 Fox Masques Apartment was initially built in the mid 90s and therefore displayed a common layout and out-of-date arrangements. Discovered on Afflante, the recently transformed house is a fascinating mix of colors and textures, resulting in a fresh atmosphere throughout its interiors.

The core of the apartment is a living room with tall ceilings, invaded by light from generously-sized windows. Two large human face mask chairs in bright orange dynamize the interior, contrasting the gray sofas and complementing the golden chandelier. A classic kitchen in gray with plenty of storage space and a traditional dining area add extra charm to this apartment in Moscow. Although most elements seem to contrast each other, the overall design is harmonious and inspiring. See any details you would like to emphasize on?

Precious White Apartment With Shabby Chic Details in Gothenburg

Scandinavian design is so simple and neat, that doesn’t need any additional glow to shine. Characterised by minimalism and most of the times, shabby chic details, Scandinavian style definitely fits people with a little drain of nonconformism in their souls. This fine apartment in Linnéstaden, one of the central districts of Gothenburg, Sweden, is gorgeous, bright and playful. In case you are looking to buy something particularly beautiful, Alvhem Mäkleri & Interiör is responsible with the selling.

The striking white floods the apartment. Despite the small space, the bedroom has its “private area”. The floor and the interior doors are made of massive wood, painted white. There are no carpets, just traditional rugs that enhance the feeling of coziness. The abundance of white is “interrupted” by colourful textures, which can be found on blankets and pillows. Now, when it comes to the kitchen, a contemporary domestic look probably defines it best. Stainless steel, smooth white luscious tiles and coffee cups hanging from the wall, complete the soothing décor. One can instantly fall in love with the view and the simplicity surrounding this home-like environment. If you are looking for a peaceful environment, compact and cozy, this might be an excellent solution.

Awkwardly Creative and “Spooky” Design in a Modern Apartment, Madrid

Immersing in a world entirely dedicated to daring artwork, we present you an interesting apartment, with an awkwardly creative approach towards…design. This modern (and edgy) home in Madrid, Spain, is the result of IlmioDesign‘s strange imagination. With futuristic light fixtures, providing a smooth silky purple ambience, the apartment is ideal for those who still believe that art is reshaping our world. A neutral palette of colours flood the breezy space, allowing you to catch every single decoration details from the wide and expanded hallway. Basically, the hallway offers you a good view over the rooms.

Unconventional and abstract paintings populate the apartment, giving you the feeling that you are about to enter an edgy art gallery. A human head statue “guards” the living room. No, this is not a horror movie scene, but a touch of awkward “grace”. Moreover, the spooky palette is completed by a human hand. With such elements of décor, who dares to sleep at night?! Even the bathroom has smooth artistic decorations. Clean, futuristic and bright, the apartment in Madrid reflects the high extravagance of an updated bohemian lifestyle. Agree or not?
