Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition expected at Best Buy: $249 with bundled keyboard and USB adapter
If you’re looking for something – anything — to lessen the burden of summertime studies, then a trip to Best Buy may soon be in order. We’ve just heard from a helpful tipster that a student edition of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is due to be stacked on shelves around August 19th, which keeps the regular $249 selling price of the 8GB WiFi-only model but bundles a keyboard dock and USB peripheral connector. If you’ve been weighing the Tab 2 up against the Nexus 7, perhaps, then factor this into your research.

Cronus adapter lets you play Xbox 360 with a PS3 controller and vice versa (video)
There’s nothing quite so enlightening as a solution to a problem you didn’t realize you had. RaptorFire’s booth, tucked away in the back corner of the LA Convention Center’s South Hall was offering up just that, in form of Cronus, a little USB stick that the company promises will “change how you look at gaming.” While the little USB adapter’s functionality isn’t quite so grandiose (same goes for the company’s assertion that it’s “the greatest invention in gaming since the controller”), the peripheral offers up an interesting proposition — being able to control your Xbox 360 with a PlayStation 3 controller — and the other way around. Oh, and Wiimotes are in the mix, as well.
The Cronus is a black USB dongle with a small single digit display on the top and a USB input on the rear. Plug it into the console of your choice, sync it up and you should be good to go. We played a round of Battlefield 3, using an Xbox 360 controller on a PS 3 — and things went smoothly. We didn’t get a chance to actually try out the syncing process, but the device’s manufacturer assured us that it’s quite smooth, for what that’s worth.

D-Link MainStage WiDi 2.0 adapter puts your laptop on the TV, is less dangerous than it sounds
It was only a matter of time before D-Link entered the WiDi fray. Even though Intel is pushing manufacturers to pack the wireless display tech into practically every laptop (and even a few tablets), options for actually getting that feed on your TV have been scarce. The decidedly nondescript MainStage adapter gives you at least one more choice and, since it boasts WiDi 2.0, you can beam 1080p video and 5.1 surround sound to your home theater from up to 33 feet away — all while you continue to browse and chat on the small screen. You can find them now in all the usual places (Newegg, Best Buy, Amazon, etc…) for $129.99, but our neighbors to the north in Canada will have to wait till July to get their hockey-loving mittens on one. Check out the PR after the break.

New adapter from Mitsubishi brings Samsung’s old 3D-capable TVs up to spec
Although 3D as a feature didn’t become commonplace on HDTVs until 2010, Mitsubishi and Samsung have both been shipping a number of 3D-ready models for several years. However, they rely on a different input format than the one used by 3D Blu-ray movies, 3DTV broadcasts and most 3D videogames so an adapter is required to make it work, which Mitsubishi released for its own DLP TVs last year. While enthusiasts on AVSForum quickly developed workarounds to get them working with some of Samsung’s DLPs as well, those won’t be necessary now that Mitsubishi is releasing the 3DC-100S, which will work with Samsung’s TVs (only projection sets, not plasmas) right out of the box. right now it’s available as a part of a $449 MSRP starter pack bundle but word is it should be available on its own shortly, in case you want to check out some ESPN 3D action without shelling out for a brand new TV set, press release is after the break.
[Thanks, Paul]
