Energy and Diversity Inspired by Original Apartment in Moscow
Designer Alexander Akinkyn came up with surprising design solutions for a home remodel in Moscow. The 13 Fox Masques Apartment was initially built in the mid 90s and therefore displayed a common layout and out-of-date arrangements. Discovered on Afflante, the recently transformed house is a fascinating mix of colors and textures, resulting in a fresh atmosphere throughout its interiors.
The core of the apartment is a living room with tall ceilings, invaded by light from generously-sized windows. Two large human face mask chairs in bright orange dynamize the interior, contrasting the gray sofas and complementing the golden chandelier. A classic kitchen in gray with plenty of storage space and a traditional dining area add extra charm to this apartment in Moscow. We know some of you guys are fascinated by decors mainly implemented in white. Susanna Cots completed the design of the “Pure White House”, a modern residence located in Almuñecar, Granada, with extensive sea views. A simple glance at the photos below will reveal neat and spacious interiors, naturally illuminated though generous windows. In most of the rooms, wood is the only material that counterbalances the main color, adding a bit of warmth to the otherwise sober atmosphere.
The house is divided into five areas: “The service area can house five people and the decoration and furniture are all designed in white. The kid’s area, which includes the children’s rooms and playroom, is the only part of the house decorated in colors. The daytime area –dining room and living room- is designed in a way that the exterior seems to enter the house so when seated on the sofa one can almost feel the sea”. We came across a furniture collection displaying a captivating mosaic finish made from hand cut pieces of stainless steel. The Crazycut series by Phillips Collection seem especially developed for bold contemporary interiors, displaying an asymmetry that is both eye-catching and original. Initially found on Design Milk, the collection consists of a two different coffee table designs, a small side table, an armchair and a large flower planter.
As you can see in the photos, it takes just a little effort to make the pieces perfectly fit a modern interior and make it unconventional. Each of the mosaic furniture designs reflects light in a unique way. The collection is most suited for minimalist rooms, but could work well in an eclectic environment also. We ran across this interesting art installation by Cologne-based artist Heike Weber for a cafe in Prague. Believe it or not, the floors of the venue were given their current bold look by using a permanent marker. The cafe is entitled ‘Bodenlos’, which literally means ‘loosing the ground under your feet’, hence the choice for the wavy patterns. We don’t know about you guys, but to us, this project looks amazing and we can’t help but feel overwhelmed at the amount of work invested in it.
Discovered on dsgn Wrld, the project of Heike Weber adds color and further dimensions to the space. If you look closely, you will notice how the lines on the floor create undulating surfaces, which can mesmerize and hold your attention for a long time. The artist has an impressive portfolio, which consists of various marker installations in unexpected places. Find her work compatible with modern interior design?

Clifton Leung Design Workshop sent us photos and information regarding a practical apartment design the studio completed in Wampoa Garden, Hong Kong, China. The warm lighting and creamy surroundings highlight the overall atmosphere of this small house: simple and peaceful. No colors other than white and beige are chosen for the color scheme to replicate the subtle warm glow in the house, including track lights that are hidden underneath the floating cabinets that evoke a spacious and dreamy ambience. With a design brief to minimize clutter and maximize space, the residence was designed in a minimalist style with clean lines.
The two major zones of the residence, the dining/ living zone and bedroom zone are well defined by the use of different flooring – sand stone tiles flooring and wood flooring respectively. The two zones are separated by a sliding door, which allows tranquil relaxation at the bedroom zone and enjoyable entertainment at the living/ dining zone at the same time.
