Bioclimatic Residence And Garden In Perfect Balance

French architect Patrice Bideau 2 Bioclimatic Residence And Garden In Perfect Balance

The owners of this fantastic property wanted a new home surrounded by a manicured garden and a natural swimming pool. They collaborated with a designer and a landscape gardener  to create the surroundings before starting constructing the house. Located in Baden, France, the residence designed by French architect Patrice Bideau has a set of eco-friendly features embedded in its simple yet elegant architecture. With the residential building having been placed in the north-west area of the property, with a lot of garden space, the space was designed to include a vegetable garden to the east.

Reached via a beautiful conservatory, the swimming pool mirrors straight and curved architectural lines during the day, while at night, it becomes part of an almost wild surrounding: “Opposite the swimming pool, a pergola for wisteria forms a link between the kitchen, the terrace and a wood frame conservatory with a polycarbonate roof, double glazed panels and wooden sub-frame, housing a winter garden. The conservatory with its slatted, sliding shutters made of wood and winter garden composed of stones, broken slates and shrubs is designed to procure extra heat in winter and to remain open in summer, thus ensuring natural ventilation for the house.” The organic and bioclimatic house features a natural wood-cladded garage guarding the main entrance with a welcoming but private feel, while the back garden surprises with its openness, balancing the overall design.

Google Maps 8-bit version for NES: April Fools arrives a day early in Mountain View

Image

Well, it appears that April Fools in full effect — at least if you ask Google. Today the company introduced its “latest” build of Google Maps, dubbed Google Maps 8-bit version, tailored specifically for the Nintendo Entertainment System. According to Google, this Dragon Quest spoof version of Maps will come in the form of a special NES cartridge that can connect to the internet via dial-up. This apparently allows most of the heavy lifting to get done on Google’s servers, where the maps are rendered to 8-bit form “in real-time.” Better yet, it even supports voice search. Naturally, there’s no word on a release date, but you can currently check out the “beta” by visiting Google Maps in your browser and selecting “Start Your Quest.” That said, that company warns that “your system may not meet the minimum requirements for 8-bit computations” — something tells us it’ll still be less resource-intensive than Crysis, though. We’ve checked it out and found some goodies, including an alien at Area 51, so let us know what you come across during your journey in the comments.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

In Brief: Dilbert on Logos

Dilbert on Logos (and Nuts)

Dilbert creator Scott Adams shares a comic that was rejected by his editor. I wonder if it was rejected because it makes fun in an unacceptable way of the venerable, heritage-rich tradition of logo design in corporate America or because of the allusion to men’s balls?

Thanks to Matt Hunter Ross for the tip.

Casa Luz by Paz Arquitectura

Paz Arquitectura have designed the Casa Luz in Guatemala city, Guatemala.

.

With intent to emphasize the structural elements, and to seek to highlight the local construction methods and materials, design work was done using fine timber formwork in order to leave a permanent imprint on the exposed concrete.

The large windows explore the opportunities to open the space as much as possible, and using floor to ceiling windows allows the rooms to become a balcony. Existing vegetation is preserved so that when you open the windows you could have a visual relationship with the existing trees.

White was used for horizontal and vertical planes (slabs and walls) in order to cause the spread of natural light. Materials such as tempered glass, wood and exposed concrete used in its size, and natural shades create an architecture that is restrained and straightforward.

Spotify takes Facebook’s Timeline feature to insane extremes

Image

Worried that Facebook’s new Timeline feature is going to offer up too much information? Don’t worry, whatever roller coaster ride your relationship status updates might be, you’ve got nothing on Spotify. The music streamer is offering up 1,000-odd years of music history on its Facebook page, reaching back to 1,000AD, which was apparently a big year for organum lovers.

Dreamy St.Petersburg Apartment by Anton Valiev

St.Petersburg Apartment by Anton Valiev 1 Dreamy St.Petersburg Apartment by Anton Valiev

We’ve seen many dream apartments – some of them small and versatile, others spacious and luxurious. All of them have a common point – a surprising interior design. Prepared to become someone’s comfortable nest, these renders by Anton Valiev exhibit a custom collaboration between natural colors and elegant furniture. With both feminine and masculine touches, this two bedroom apartment in St. Petersburg is perfect for a small family. Tradition and modernity subtly intertwine to shape an elegant display of spaces. One of the bedrooms features blue accents and cream furniture, in a successful attempt to create a dreamy design, while the other bedroom is soberer, although the romantic canopy over the bed softens the atmosphere. A masculine office/den provides privacy and an imposing work space, balanced by the display of travel-related art and a comforting fireplace. My favorite space in this apartment found on Home Designing is the light flooded vanity area – the perfect place to start and end a day.

Fisker’s Project Nina exposed ahead of New York Auto Show debut

Fisker's Project Nina exposed ahead of New York Auto Show debut

An unreleased gadget is pretty easy to conceal, but an upcoming automobile? Not so much. Thanks to some quick reflexes, you’re looking at the first spy shots of Fisker’s second and smaller plug-in hybrid sedan, heretofore known as Project Nina. Last we heard, the BMW-powered auto had been put on life-support, as the remainder of the company’s DOE loan evaporated as it failed to meet timely deadlines in bringing its first EV, the Karma, to market. That could mean the above is a mere concept designed to woo potential investors — but with less than a week before its supposed New York auto show debut, it won’t be long until we know for sure. Until then, ogle at more eye candy of the beaut over at Autoblog in the source link below.
