Mime
Pantomime is best defined by its use of the object illusion… the illusions created are conventional objects we are all familiar with; rope, stairway, or door… The anecdotes make up the stories which can happen to all of us… The pantomimist ingeniously changes from one role to another, cleverly creating a world out of nothing. The audience delights in seeing something that isn’t there and is more than willing to give itself up to this world of make-believe. This quality of magic and fantasy is pantomime’s greatest appeal.

Modern Home Overlooking the Arabian Sea Coast: The Cliff House

The Cliff House is a contemporary residence designed by Khosla Associates and located in Chowara, a fishing village in Kerala, India. Overlooking the Arabian Sea coast, the modern crib rests at the edge of a cliff. Its unusual geometry is defined by an asymmetrical sloping roof which was integrated within a coconut plantation. The interior design is highly modern and, according to the architects, it is structured as follows: “On entering the house, the open plan voluminous foyer not only separates the private and public spaces but also extends all the way from the front entrance to the rear deck, where you can wade straight into the 420 sqm. infinity pool. The double height foyer separates the two wings and separates public and private spaces. Guest bedrooms and shaded decks lie to either side of the outdoor pool whose prominent position and expanse compensate for the missing beach access. Additional guest rooms and master bedroom connect to each other on the upper level via a walkway and terrace”. The residence covers an area of 1397 square meters, and each part of the property takes full advantage of its privileged surrounding landscape.

Infinity Bench by Andrew Williams and Tom Huang
Andrew Williams and Tom Huang have created the Infinity Bench.
.
Infinity is a bench that explores the possibilities of bamboo strip construction. The process of designing and constructing the bench was done by Andrew Williams and Tom Huang. The idea came after building “The Comfort Girls”, a set of three cocktail tables built using the same techniques. We wanted to see if the strip making process, originally used in the construction of wooden canoes, was structural enough to be implemented into a seating project. The infinity bench is designed as public seating for the lobby of a museum or gallery.

Lenovo LePhone S760 shows up with Android 2.3.5 and 3.7-inch AMOLED display
Alongside the LePhone S2 and the two-and-a-half tablets from earlier today, Lenovo also showed off a 3.7-inch Android 2.3.5 phone dubbed the S760. Packed within is a 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, a vibrant AMOLED display, five megapixel camera and Lenovo’s usual customised UI. Externally the phone looks very much like the S2, though the former’s shiny plastic backside gives out more of a toy-like feel. No prices just yet but expect this to hit the Chinese market at the end of December.

Smart is as Smart Dots

Established in 1991, Smart Communications, a subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., is the largest mobile service provider in the Philippines — dubbed the Texting Capital of the World — with a reported 47.8 million subscribers. (AT&T, to put it in perspective, has around 95 million customers.) Smart introduced a new logo and new tagline, “In an ever-changing world, we lead you to a bold, new future.” earlier this November.
Leading wireless services provider, Smart Communications, Inc. has unveiled its new logo which reflects the evolving digital lifestyle of Filipinos. Smart’s corporate name is rendered in a more youthful blue and its signature rays have morphed into eight dots in various vibrant colors, to reflect the freedom and empowerment that Smart’s broader range of products and services make possible.

Smart’s new ambassador, apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, unveiling the new logo and theme song for Smart at a concert.
The previous logo wasn’t too embarrassing, even if it had a dozen more straight-edged swooshes than Verizon and the new logo is a nice evolution of it, keeping some of the details like the open crossbar of the “A” and the tight tracking. Maybe it’s become clear to everyone, but I’m not a fan of tight tracking, it leads to weird counterspaces and forced ligatures like the one happening in “MAR”, but the general effect of the typography is convincingly youthful and contemporary. The dots, unfortunately are absolutely lame. The colors are annoying, the placing and spacing is arbitrary, and the concept is as rudimentary as it gets. But they sure do look like a party. The overall redesign is much welcome but I wish there were something more creative than dots.
