Gauthier Bottle

“For the New Year, Gauthier has offered to all its clients a glass bottle that had many things to contest. Let’s eliminate plastic bottles and lift our glasses to the power of glass!
Created under the theme of resistance, the box is classic and clean on the exterior. However, once the bottle is opened, the box pannels laterally detach themselves. Just like an explosion, the words crash and call to the mass power of water drinkers.”

The Frost Chair by FurnID for Stouby
Copenhagen based design studio FurnID created the Frost chair for the manufacturer Stouby.

.
The Frost Chair by FurnID for Stouby
The inspiration for FROST; emerged from FurnID’s fascination with the lines and forms, which occur when the wind plays with new fallen snow. In the same way the sculptural chair has the formal qualities of a snowdrift’s beautiful organic form, which covers the snow dressed landscape.
Designer Bo Strange explains “It has taken us nearly two years to develop FROST and during the process we there were many challenging discussions. It was a difficult task to keep the beautiful curves of the chair without destroying its comfort and light construction and we did not want to compromise either design or functionality. Since great comfort is a key issue for STOUBY, it took great deal of time to put everything in place”.
The attention to detail is evident and the effort to refine this has paid off when ones eye travels across the sculptural form. The organic form gives FROST a futuristic appearance, where all lines merges together, regardless of the angle from which the chair is viewed.
In spite of the futuristic expression, FROST clearly draws on references from the classic design aesthetic of the 40’s and the 50’s. FurnID’s main inspiration comes from the famous architect Finn Juhl, who became known for his unique organic idiom, which put Danish design on to the world map.
Just like many of Finn Juhl’s classic furniture, FROST has the characteristic of an upholstered shell, standing on turned wooden legs, which is available in different types of wood. This combination gives the chair a harmonious and balanced appearance.
With its sculptural simplicity and faultless elegance, FROST sits perfectly amongst older classic designs and modern furniture and for that reason this sophisticated chair will be a beautiful addition to any private homes or public space such as hotels, lobbies and airports.

How to Warm your Home with Tropical Colors
As fall sets in and the colorful summer flowers disappear, the interiors of your home can start to feel gloomy when you look outside. If you were to close your eyes and imagine a warm tropical island, wouldn’t that start making you feel warmer? Tropical colors in fresh water blues, bright sunny yellows, and lush greens can make your home feel warmer and brighten up your spirits through the cold. Here are some tips for bringing those warm colors and aesthetics into your home.

- Pull from experience: Have you been on a vacation recently that you want to evoke the feelings you had when you visited? Have you sat and daydreamed about tropical places but never get there? Your home is the perfect place to pull in memories and start new ones. Use photographs from vacations, online magazines and travel brochures to get your creative juices going! Get inspired for colors to use and patterns to include in your space.
- Go bold: Bright and tropical colors can be bold and bright to match your personality and style. Consider buying wall paper or wall murals that have splashes of bright color or depict a tropical vibe. Choose a color from your wallpaper and paint adjacent walls a subdued version of that color to bring all the walls together harmoniously rather than haphazardly!

- Don’t be shy of patterns: How about taking your colors into your textiles and furniture fabrics? These are great places to mix and match solids and patterns to give a casual and upbeat sense to your interiors. Use tropical colors that cover the rainbow – or pick your favorites and go wild with them! If you prefer patterns but not so bold, choose neutral colored fabrics to pair up with a few patterned accessories like pillows and area rugs.
- Stay soft: Even though you enjoy tropical colors, the big and bold versions aren’t for everyone. If you prefer a lighter and softer version, then use muted versions of turquoise, yellows and greens. Sky blue, butter yellow and sage green can now be your tropical color palette to warm up your space. Have one favorite color? Use tone on tone decorating style and choose a bold color and then use lighter shades of the same color throughout your home, perfect.

- Be eclectic: The wonderful thing about the tropics is they can be as formal or casual as you want them to be. Pull in ideas, colors and textures from multiple places. The bohemian lifestyle can also be incorporated in your home. The mixing and matching of patterns, colors, cultures, and textures is what makes your home come alive. Try these in your home, and see how the dull outdoors pales in comparison to the inside of your home!

Tropical colors can make you and your guests feel teleported to another land when you’re in your home. Whether your style is bold or subtle, formal or casual, the colors can fit your lifestyle perfectly. For added inspiration visit home stores that specialize in affordable imported décor from other countries. They will give you ideas, and you may just bring home a few hidden treasures!

Gaikai beta goes live, brings Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, Sims 3 and Second Life demos to your browser window
Remember Gaikai, the cloud computing service that lets you demo video games in your browser window without downloading a thing? It’s live, meaning it’s no longer just us tech journalists that get to give it a thorough try. Provided you have a blazing fast internet connection and both Flash and Java installed, four streaming game demos are a just a click (and possibly a survey, or a short wait) away, including three EA titles (Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, The Sims 3) and Second Life. As we discovered in our initial hands-on, it’s not a flawless experience even with a fantastic internet connection, but it’s not meant to be — the entire point is to allow you to adequately sample a game right before making a purchase decision. It’s also a free taste of the future, and you don’t see those every day.

Nexus S 2.3.3 update adjusts screen’s color temperature, we go eyes-on
We’ve been hearing reports about Nexus S’ Android 2.3.3 update adding a yellow tint to the screen and even washing out its colors, but according to Google’s Ry Guy, said patch is indeed intended to tweak the display’s color temperature. Here’s the full quote from Google’s support forum:
“With your new OTA complete, you may notice a slight difference in the way colors are displayed on your Nexus S. For Nexus S, we have adjusted the color temperature settings to more accurately reflect darker colors at all brightness levels. The Gingerbread UI being darker, we found that the colors were not as accurate when the device was being used at lower brightness levels. For example, some users reported that the initial color temperature was too high leading to some darker greys having a reddish tone; with the new color temperature this is no longer the case.”
So while this display tweak is well-intentioned, it looks like many commenters on both the forum and XDA-Developers aren’t too happy with this. Being curious geeks that we are, we went ahead and manually updated our own Nexus S (and by the way, be sure to match your build number with the appropriate patch). As you can see in our comparison photos (shot with the same manual camera settings and medium screen brightness), the new overall color temperature is no doubt subtly warmer, although the dimmer brightness settings no longer suffer from the aforementioned red tone. Interestingly, we actually approve this change, and the Super AMOLED display certainly doesn’t look washed out to us, nor do we see any noisy dithering that some have reported. Surely we can’t be alone. Well, there’s only one way to help solve this mystery: if you happen to be a fellow Nexus S owner who’s applied this update, why not chime in below?
