The Oddbod Chair by Javier Alejandre
Spanish designer Javier Alejandre has created the Oddbod Chair.

.
Description from:
The chair plays at the boundary between an inert object such as a chair and to give life to this object. The formal inspiration are the weird sci-fi movies of the mid-twentieth century design and retrofuturistic organic design tendences. It´s made in rotomoulded PET and pine legs.

Holy Home: Stunning Looking Church for Sale in Utrecht
Did you ever think how it would be like to live in a 19th century church? This 1870 Gothic Church in Utrecht was transformed into a contemporary home by Zecc Architects and Thomas Haukes in 2009. The impressive makeover emphasizes on light, functionality and the maximization of space. “WoonkerkXL” (“Residential Church XL”) impresses due to the unexpected perspectives and overall immaculate feel. The white walls and minimalist furniture make for an uncommon living room of colossal proportions. Several art works and decorative elements create a more friendly atmosphere and divulge the true nature of this seemingly holy space. We particularly like the improvised home office with the comfy armchair and small glass table. The unusual building is currently up for sale for the sum of €2.375 million. How would you feel about living in this type of unconventional home?

Apple forces PhotoFast to abandon 256GB upgrade kit for MacBook Airs
Remember that peppy aftermarket 256GB SSD upgrade from PhotoFast that easily smoked (on paper anyway) the SSD found in Apple’s latest MacBook Air? It’s been halted before it went on sale upon Apple’s request, similarly to those HyperMac batteries before it. 9to5Mac first reported the news based on a source close to the company and we just confirmed it directly with the PhotoFast GM2_SFV1_Air product manager. The risk of losing access to Apple’s product licensing program was just too grave a threat to ignore. So, enjoy your 160MBps max SSD transfer rate MBA owners, you’ll get that 250MBps sequential read/write speed bump only when Apple’s good and ready to provide it themselves — possibly sooner, we’re told, if PhotoFast is given the green light to restart sales after Toshiba’s SSD modules (Apple’s MBA partner) are available for purchase.

Magic Chair Transforms Into a Suitcase in a Matter of Seconds

Don’t you just like it when monstrous furniture objects can be packed up and turned into small “artifacts” easy to maneuver? Today’s chair could not be called “monstrous” in size, but it does have the ability to magically transform into a suitcase in a matter of seconds. The metamorphosis couldn’t be more interesting to observe. It looks like a fast and captivating magic trick. This uncommon chair is perfect for taking along when traveling- just imagine bringing more of these tiny suitcases and setting up a picnic table- or for the outdoor spaces located near the house. Enjoy the video and let us know what you think of the “dexterity” of the man in the movie and if you find the overall design of this product appealing.- via The Awesomer

US Supreme Court agrees to hear Microsoft appeal in Word patent case
It’s been quite a few months since we’ve seen any major developments in Microsoft’s patent battle with Toronto-based i4i Inc over Microsoft Word, but it looks like things are now about to change in a big way. As The Wall Street Journal reports, the US Supreme Court has today agreed to hear Mircosoft’s appeal in the case that dealt it $290 million in damages and prevented it from selling versions of Word that contained the allegedly infringing technology. That could not only have some pretty big ramifications for Microsoft in this particular case, but for patent law in general, as it gets to the very heart of the legal standard for determining the validity of a patent. Needless to say, we’ll be watching this one very closely — the court is expected to hear the case sometime next year.

Mesmerising Home in São Paulo, a Perfect Relaxation Retreat
Here is a home which seems to have it all. Casa Acapulco was designed by Flávio Castro and has a diverse modern architecture. Located in a subdivision in the coastal city of Guaruja, a municipality in the São Paulo state of Brazil, Casa Acapulco has a well defined personality. The residence occupies a constructed area of 340 square meters on a plot of 520 square meters. The exterior design of the house blends perfectly with the recreational lawn and the generous pool. Floor to ceiling windows encourage a good natural illumination throughout the day as well as a strong indoor-outdoor connection. The interior design takes modern arrangements to another level, making this home look more like an exhibition gallery, than a family residence. We particularly like the white indoor stairs which connect the levels revealing the water fountain below, a focal point of the house. (Photos Marcelo Scandaroli )

Comcast internet down across parts of the eastern seaboard, fix on the way

Twitter’s abuzz with angry Comcast customers tonight, as internet service is down in Boston and parts of the eastern United States, a situation the company’s since confirmed at its official Twitter account. Comcast’s calling it an unexpected outage and says that “engineers are finalizing the correction” as we speak, though it’s admittedly been a couple of hours since that tweet. Meanwhile, Twitter at large seems to have figured out it’s a Comcast DNS issue, and have had some luck switching to alternate servers like Google’s at 8.8.4.4. and 8.8.8.8. Let us know if those work in comments after the break!
